This page will show you how to connect to the SECD server from off campus with WinSCP.
 
Connect to the SECD Server with WinSCP
  1. Download and install the application WinSCP.
  2. Follow instruction on WinSCP site to the install application.
 
  1. When you open WinSCP for the first time, you will need to enter the hostname to which you're connecting and your user name. You will be able to save these settings in WinSCP so they will appear when you open WinSCP again.

  3. At the WinSCP login screen, enter “secd.unl.edu” without the quotes in the “Host name” field. Alternatively you could type the server’s IP: 129.93.94.19
  4.  
  5.   In the “User name” text field, type in your account name.
  6.  
  7.   In the “Password” text field, type in your password.
  8.  
  9.   Then click the “Login” button.
  10.  
  1.  Click “Yes” in the Warning pop-up window to proceed with connecting to the host. Note: This window should only appear the first time you log in.
 
  1. Once connected, the left-hand side of the window will show your local computer and the right-hand side of the window will show your home directory on the server.
 
  1. In some instances, you will need to move to a higher directory. Use the pop-down menu at the top of the window to choose a higher directory.
Server Etiquette
 
  1.  Do not work on files over the network - download them to your local computer.
  2.  Dismount from servers when you’re not using them.
  3.  Quit promptly from applications you’re not actively using.
  4.  Exit normally from applications, using the Quit command.
  5.  Buy legal copies of applications you need to use regularly.
 
  1. Next an Authentication Banner will appear to confirm your connection to the SECD host.
  2. Click the “Continue” button to close this window.
